Waitress Frona Buckley gave what she could from her weekly earnings to the annual Long Beach Press-Telegram Send-a-Kid-to-Camp campaign that supports five youth summer camp programs.

Desiring to make an impact greater than her regular donations, Frona included this campaign in her estate plan. Upon her death in 2006, her bequest of $10,000 created the Send-a-Kid-to-Camp Endowment Fund at the Long Beach Community Foundation. The endowment continues to grow from additional contributions, and an annual distribution is added to the amount raised in the public campaign. Frona’s planned gift was seed money for a fund that will give in perpetuity.
